Shell seals 300 MW of Spanish play on solar power
Under a long-term power purchase agreement, Shell Energy Europe will purchase power from Solaria from solar farms in Spain for a total of 300 MW (PPA).
Six solar projects that will produce around 570 gigawatt hours of electricity per year will supply the energy.
The projects will gradually be linked to the grid until 2021.
The duration of the PPA is 10 years, with power deliveries beginning upon the installations being commissioned.
Rupen Tanna, General Manager for Power at Shell Energy Europe, said: "This solar power purchase agreement will allow us to supply our customers with more clean energy, while also helping to support the continued growth of renewable energy in Spain."
Solaria chief operating officer Dario Lopez said: “It is an honour to start working with Shell, one of Europe’s leading energy companies, and we welcome the confidence they have shown in Solaria.
“This is one more step towards our goal of becoming a benchmark in the solar sector in Europe.”
