New UK focused solar developer Climate ER has secured funding for £250 million worth of utility scale projects. It is targeting a pipeline within the next two years of 500MW, thanks to the backing from a solar investor "of global repute" the company said. Researchers have achieved an efficiency record for transparent solar cells, paving the way for skyscraper windows to serve as power sources. The UK will need to install 6520 offshore wind turbines if it is to meet its net zero target, according to a new whitepaper from engineering outfit Atkins. “Race to Net Zero” calculates the energy technology build rate required to meet the Committee for Climate Change’s UK net zero 2050 target. UK renewables generation was up 32% year-on-year as biomass, wind and solar set new generation records in the second quarter of 2020, the latest Drax report shows.
