Engie, Volkswagen France Deploy 20MW Solar Carpark

Engie has begun installing a 20MW solar carpark system at Volkswagen Group France’s headquarters in Aisne. The solar PV shading will provide cover for the group’s vehicle fleet of 6500 cars. Engie Green secured was successfully awarded two 10MW projects in 2020 and 2021 in calls for tenders launched by the Ministry of Ecological Transition.

The installation work has started and will last 22 months. Engie Green is financing the project in full, with an investment of around €20m and will operate the facilities for 32 years. The electricity produced will be fed into the Enedis network. Xavier Chardon, chairman of the management board of Volkswagen Group France, said: “This ambitious project to cover our Villers-Cotterets fleet with photovoltaic shades is entirely in line with the Volkswagen Group’s New Auto strategy, with the aim of aim of decarbonising our activities, whether during the production and use of our vehicles, but also through actions using renewable energies.”
