Vattenfall Expands Solar Footprint With 23MW Project

Vattenfall Kicks Off Construction of 23MW Solar Project with Direct Community Involvement in Germany!

Vattenfall has officially begun construction on a 23MW ground-mounted photovoltaic system, marking a significant milestone in the energy transition. What makes this project truly remarkable is that it’s the first of its kind where local residents can directly participate financially! šŸŒšŸ’¶

The solar park, located in Silberstedt, Schleswig-Holstein, has attracted numerous community members eager to invest in the future of clean energy. By taking advantage of this unique opportunity, they have become active participants in driving the energy transition right in their own backyard. šŸ”šŸ”‹

This ambitious project is being developed without any government fundingā€”a bold move that sets a new standard for community-driven renewable energy initiatives. Companies like Vattenfall are now allowed to engage local citizens as investors in large-scale solar parks, paving the way for more community-centered energy projects. šŸŒžšŸ‘„

In Silberstedt, residents have been able to participate through a “qualified subordinated loan,” offering an attractive interest rate of 6.3% per year over the loan term. This pilot project is just the beginning, with Vattenfall planning to replicate this model in future solar parks across Germany. šŸš€

Claus Wattendrup, head of Vattenfall’s solar & batteries business unit, shared his excitement: ā€œWhen we introduce our solar projects in communities, weā€™re often asked about direct citizen participation. This new form of engagement, made possible through the Asset Investment Act, was complex to implement, but weā€™re thrilled to see it come to life in Silberstedt. My heartfelt thanks go to the team that made this possible. Silberstedt is just the startā€”more projects like this are on the horizon.ā€ šŸŒŸ

But that’s not all! The benefits for the Silberstedt community go beyond direct financial participation. Vattenfall will contribute the maximum legally allowed amount of 0.2 cents to the municipality for every kilowatt hour of solar power generated, along with trade tax revenue from the solar parkā€™s operations. Plus, residents can enjoy green electricity at reduced rates for up to two years through the “citizen electricity” program. šŸŒ±šŸ’”

This groundbreaking project not only empowers the local community but also sets a powerful example of how we can all be part of the energy transition. Stay tuned for more community-driven solar projects from Vattenfall! šŸ’ŖšŸŒ

Croatian Solar Market Heats Up With Acciona Deal

Acciona EnergĆa Secures Landmark Contract for Croatia’s Largest Solar Plant. Acciona EnergĆa has achieved a significant milestone by securing a 12-year Contract for Difference (CfD) with the Croatian energy regulator, Hrvatski Operator Trzista Energije (HROTE), for the development of the 189MWp Promina photovoltaic plant. This groundbreaking project will be the largest solar plant in Croatia once it becomes operational in 2027.Located in the scenic province of Sibenik-Knin in southern Croatia, Promina will feature over 300,000 photovoltaic modules, generating a staggering 320GWh of clean electricity annually. This is enough to meet the energy needs of approximately 69,000 homes, while also preventing the emission of around 140,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year.

The CfD was awarded through a competitive public auction, part of a support program launched by the Croatian government and HROTE, and approved by the European Commission. This initiative underscores Croatia’s commitment to expanding its renewable energy capacity and reducing its carbon footprint. Acciona EnergĆa is also set to construct a new 400kV interconnection substation at the Promina site to facilitate the integration of this green energy into the national grid. Furthermore, the Promina solar plant will be part of Acciona EnergĆa’s Social Impact Management program, which aims to reinvest a portion of the facility’s annual income to enhance training, well-being, and environmental management in the local communities. Marking a significant advancement in Acciona EnergĆa’s commitment to the Croatian renewable market, Promina joins the companyā€™s other renewable energy projects, including the wind projects in Opor (27MW) and Boraja 2 (45MW), and the Jelinak wind complex (30MW), which has been operational since 2013. Upon completion of these projects, Acciona EnergĆa is set to become the leading producer of clean energy in Croatia, contributing to around 8% of the total installed renewable power and 20% of the installed solar power in the country. Orlen Buys Up Polish Solar And Wind

Orlen Wind 3 Strikes Major Deal with EDP Renewables Polska to Boost Green Energy Capacity

Orlen Wind 3 has signed a preliminary agreement with EDP Renewables Polska to acquire PV projects with a combined capacity of 280MWp, along with a 26MW wind farm, in Poland. This significant transaction, valued at approximately PLN 1.15bn (ā‚¬0.26bn), marks one of the largest deals in recent years within the Polish renewable energy sector.

The wind farm is located in the Province of ÅĆ³dÅŗ, while the solar sites are situated in the Provinces of Zielona GĆ³ra and Poznań. This acquisition is set to elevate the Orlen Groupā€™s renewable generation capacity by nearly 30%.

Ireneusz Fąfara, Chief Executive and President of the Management Board of Orlen, expressed his enthusiasm: “We promised to accelerate our efforts, and weā€™re delivering on that promise. This new agreement will add over 300MW to our renewable energy portfolio, which is nearly a third of what weā€™ve built in renewables over the recent years. But itā€™s not just about the scale ā€“ this deal also makes strong economic sense for us and offers a real chance of enhancing the Orlen Groupā€™s value. Our goal is to be a key player in Central and Eastern Europeā€™s energy transition. Thatā€™s why weā€™re not stopping here, actively looking for further attractive projects on the renewable energy market to seize every business opportunity that comes our way.”

The agreement includes the purchase of two solar PV farms:

  1. ChotkĆ³w Solar Farm: Located in the village of ChotkĆ³w, County of Å»agań, Province of Zielona-GĆ³ra, this farm spans 45 hectares and features over 61,000 solar panels with a total capacity of 40MWp. Commissioned in January 2024, the farm is designed to minimize environmental impact, allowing free movement of small animals through appropriately raised fencing, without disturbing their natural migration paths.
  2. Przykona Solar Farm: Situated on a former lignite strip-mine in the municipality of Przykona, Province of Poznań, this farm currently has a capacity of 200MWp. An expansion project underway will add another 40MWp, scheduled for completion by the end of this year. Once the additional capacity is operational, it will be the largest solar PV farm in Poland, with the Orlen Group as its sole owner.

Additionally, the Orlen Group acquires Warta, an onshore wind farm built in May 2023 west of Sieradz, in the Province of ÅĆ³dÅŗ. This wind farm consists of 13 turbines capable of generating 26MW, benefiting from high wind intensity to ensure optimal utilization of the installed capacity.

This acquisition underscores Orlen’s commitment to accelerating the energy transition in Central and Eastern Europe and solidifying its position as a key player in the renewable energy market. #RenewableEnergy #SolarPower #WindEnergy #GreenEnergy #SustainableFuture #OrlenGroup #EDPRenewables #PolandGreenEnergy #EnergyTransition #EnvironmentalImpact
