Island Green Power (IGP) is taking a significant step towards a sustainable future by launching a public consultation for its proposed 500MW East Pye solar farm in South Norfolk, England. If approved, this innovative project will transform land near Long Stratton into a vibrant source of renewable energy, featuring cutting-edge solar panels and a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).

A Clean Energy Revolution

The East Pye solar farm is poised to make a considerable impact on the local and national energy landscape. With its robust generation capacity, the facility will be connected to the National Grid through a new substation and the existing 400kV overhead line that runs from Norwich Main to Bramford. The BESS will play a crucial role in optimizing energy flow by storing excess energy produced during sunny periods and releasing it during peak demand, effectively reducing the risk of power outages and contributing to a more resilient energy grid.

Engaging the Community

Since the East Pye Solar project is classified as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP), it requires a Development Consent Order (DCO). This means that the planning process will include multiple stages of public consultation, allowing IGP to gather valuable feedback from the community, local authorities, and other stakeholders. This input is vital for shaping the project to ensure it aligns with local needs and aspirations.

Samantha Jones, Project Development Manager for East Pye Solar, expressed enthusiasm about the initiative, stating, “We are excited to bring forward these plans for East Pye Solar, which, if built, will generate clean ‘homegrown’ electricity for homes and businesses. This project supports the national ambition to achieve net zero while securing a reliable, affordable source of electricity.”

This solar farm, boasting around 100MW of installed capacity, is a huge step forward in HEP’s journey toward decarbonization. As Croatia aims for ambitious renewable energy targets by 2030, the Korlat Solar Power Plant is set to become HEP’s largest solar investment to date, and it’s ready to make a significant impact on the nation’s energy mix.

Windel And Recurrent Invite Your Input On Exciting UK PV Project

Fosse Green Energy’s Solar & Storage Project Consultation! 

Windel Energy and Recurrent Energy are excited to announce a statutory consultation for the proposed Fosse Green Energy solar and storage project, located in the picturesque southwest of Lincoln, England. This innovative initiative aims to both export and import electricity to the national electricity transmission network, enhancing the region’s energy infrastructure.

Key to this project is the planned underground cable connection to the proposed new National Grid Substation near Navenby, which is currently under a separate planning application by National Grid. The consultation follows an initial non-statutory exercise in Autumn 2023, where we shared our preliminary study area and two grid connection corridor options.

We’ve listened closely to community feedback and, as a result, we’re unveiling updated plans that not only focus on energy production but also emphasize community benefits. Some of the exciting proposals include:

  • Creating permissive paths that connect local villages to Public Rights of Way
  • Planting community orchards to enhance local greenery
  • Enhancing biodiversity across the project site
  • Establishing a community liaison group for ongoing engagement and feedback from local representatives

Lloyd Sandles, Projects Director at Windel Energy, expressed the importance of community input, stating: “The feedback we received at our first consultation has been invaluable in shaping our plans. We have carefully refined a preferred grid connection corridor to minimize social and environmental impact.”

James Whitney, Business Development Manager at Recurrent Energy, added: “The solar panels and associated infrastructure will occupy only a small percentage of the land, allowing us to focus on planting and landscaping that benefits the community.”

Exciting news from the renewable energy world! Greening has been awarded the EPC contract to construct a 60MWac photovoltaic power plant in Jasper County, Indiana. This solar project will cover a sprawling 452 acres (183 hectares) and deliver clean, renewable energy to a major technology company—though the end customer’s name remains under wraps for now. 

The energy generated by the Jasper County Solar Project will be sold through a Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) agreement signed with the tech company, helping to support their sustainability goals in the region. The project is a major win for both Greening and the end customer, contributing to Indiana’s growing renewable energy footprint. Ignacio Salcedo, CEO of Greening, celebrated the achievement, stating: “For Greening, this project solidifies the success of our commitment to the North American market, which now represents 40% of our total portfolio. Our growing presence in the US market is one of the pillars of our strategic plan for 2024-2026, which we presented to the market last May.” Construction on the plant is set to begin in the fourth quarter of 2024, with completion expected by the end of 2025. This marks another major step forward in Greening’s ambitious expansion plans, positioning the company as a leader in the U.S. renewable energy sector. Plenitude Launches Construction of 220MW Solar Plant in Salamanca, Spain!

Plenitude has officially broken ground on its highly anticipated 220MW solar plant in Villarino de los Aires, Salamanca, marking a significant milestone in renewable energy development in Castilla y León. This massive solar park, spanning 286 hectares, is set to become one of the largest in the region and a crucial step forward in Spain’s clean energy future. At the cornerstone laying ceremony, representatives from the Regional Government of Castilla y León, the City Council, and Plenitude gathered to celebrate the start of this transformative project. The plant will be connected to the national transmission grid via a 3.2km underground medium-voltage line, further showcasing the cutting-edge infrastructure being implemented.

With 365,300 bifacial solar modules, this plant is expected to produce over 400,000 MWh of clean electricity per year, powering thousands of homes and businesses across Spain. The project, slated for completion by 2025, is being built with the support of Sterling & Wilson alongside local firms, ensuring both innovation and local collaboration. Plenitude is also committed to environmental stewardship, implementing measures to conserve natural water channels, relocate rural huts, and install a permeable hunting fence to protect local wildlife. Active coordination with neighboring farmers ensures that the project remains compatible with the land’s traditional uses, striking a balance between renewable energy development and local livelihoods. Mariangiola Mollicone, head of Western Europe renewables and managing director of Plenitude in Spain, expressed pride in the collaborative efforts: “The Villarino project is a virtuous example of integration with the territory. Being here today, in the presence of all the actors involved, is tangible proof of our willingness to continue this collaborative approach in the coming years.” With the start of this project, Plenitude strengthens its presence in Castilla y León, where it already operates a 13MW wind plant. Plenitude’s renewable portfolio in Spain now exceeds 440MW of installed photovoltaic and wind capacity, with projects under construction totaling around 1GW in Andalusia, Castilla y León, and Extremadura. The company is also advancing plans for over 2GW of new renewable energy capacity across the country. Trina Solar’s International Systems Business Unit (Trina Solar ISBU) has just announced an exciting 15-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with EGO, the innovative Italian energy management company owned by the Shell Group. This partnership marks a significant milestone in the renewable energy landscape, encompassing nine groundbreaking projects that will collectively generate 69MWp across various regions in Italy.

With construction already underway or set to commence in 2024 and 2025, these projects are not just numbers; they’re a promise of progress.  This initiative is expected to create approximately 1,000 jobs in nine different regions, bringing new opportunities and economic growth to local communities.

Once operational, this impressive portfolio is projected to generate 119 GWh of clean energy annually, enough to power 7,000 average-sized households! This collaboration not only aims to provide green energy to EGO’s Italian clients but also plays a crucial role in supporting Italy’s ambitious goal of having 65% of its electricity generated from renewable sources by 2030.

Better Energy has signed a landmark 10-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Swedish plastics manufacturer Nolato, aimed at covering a substantial portion of Nolato’s electricity needs with clean, renewable energy. This deal is tied to the establishment of a 24MW solar park near Studsvik, southwest of Stockholm, and is a key milestone in Nolato’s drive to reduce its carbon footprint.

Spanning over 23 hectares in the Nyköping municipality, the new solar array will directly power Nolato’s operations across Sweden, supporting the company’s goal to cut CO2 emissions by 80% by 2025. As part of its long-term sustainability strategy, Nolato has been increasingly turning to PPAs as a way to secure green energy, manage costs, and protect itself against energy price volatility.

Christer Wahlquist, CEO of Nolato, emphasized the benefits of the agreement, stating: “Incorporating another solar farm into our energy mix is an effective strategy for accessing renewable electricity with a Guarantee of Origin, helping us meet our emission reduction targets. At the same time, the PPA provides stability in our future electricity costs, supporting both our sustainability goals and business operations.”

Tesco has announced the signing of its largest UK Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to date, securing 65% of the solar power from the 373MW Cleve Hill Solar Park. Facilitated by EDF, this 15-year deal marks the largest solar corporate PPA ever agreed upon in the UK, according to Tesco. Located on the north Kent coast, Cleve Hill Solar Park began construction in early 2023 and is slated to be operational by early 2025. With more than 560,000 solar panels and cutting-edge energy storage infrastructure, Cleve Hill will significantly boost the UK’s renewable energy output. The site is expected to generate enough renewable power annually to meet the electricity needs of 144 large Tesco stores.

Tesco’s commitment to sustainability is further reinforced by this deal. By 2030, PPAs will cover 45% of Tesco UK’s and 36% of the group’s projected electricity demand, demonstrating their leadership in corporate climate action. EDF’s role in power balancing and shaping services is crucial to ensuring the smooth integration of this green energy into the grid.
