Trina Solar’s International Systems Business Unit (Trina Solar ISBU) has just announced an exciting 15-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with EGO, the innovative Italian energy management company owned by the Shell Group. This partnership marks a significant milestone in the renewable energy landscape, encompassing nine groundbreaking projects that will collectively generate 69MWp across various regions in Italy.

With construction already underway or set to commence in 2024 and 2025, these projects are not just numbers; they’re a promise of progress.  This initiative is expected to create approximately 1,000 jobs in nine different regions, bringing new opportunities and economic growth to local communities.

Once operational, this impressive portfolio is projected to generate 119 GWh of clean energy annually, enough to power 7,000 average-sized households! This collaboration not only aims to provide green energy to EGO’s Italian clients but also plays a crucial role in supporting Italy’s ambitious goal of having 65% of its electricity generated from renewable sources by 2030.

Octopus Renewables Infrastructure Trust (ORIT) Expands Its Green Energy Footprint with 42MW Solar Farm Acquisition Near Dublin! 

We are thrilled to announce that ORIT has successfully completed the acquisition of a newly constructed 42MW solar farm near Dublin, Ireland! This exciting addition brings our total capacity across five sites to an impressive 241MW, contributing significantly towards Ireland’s ambitious national PV target of 8GW by 2030.

This solar farm, along with four operational solar farms acquired earlier this year, positions ORIT as a key player in the renewable energy sector. Developed and constructed by Statkraft Ireland under ORIT’s watchful eye, these arrays are set to meet approximately 2.5% of Ireland’s solar energy goals, underscoring our commitment to a sustainable future.

Financed partially through a €104m debt facility from Allied Irish Banks and La Banque Postale, this acquisition has a total cost of €198m, with €38m allocated to this new site. The strategic partnership includes a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Microsoft, ensuring a stable revenue stream from the solar complex.

With this acquisition, ORIT’s operational renewable energy assets now total 802MW, enough green energy to power around 50,000 homes!  Not only does this endeavor provide sustainable electricity to Irish households, but it also helps prevent approximately 70,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year. Better Energy Inks 10-Year Solar PPA with Nolato, Powering Sustainability in Sweden 

Better Energy has signed a landmark 10-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Swedish plastics manufacturer Nolato, aimed at covering a substantial portion of Nolato’s electricity needs with clean, renewable energy. This deal is tied to the establishment of a 24MW solar park near Studsvik, southwest of Stockholm, and is a key milestone in Nolato’s drive to reduce its carbon footprint.

Spanning over 23 hectares in the Nyköping municipality, the new solar array will directly power Nolato’s operations across Sweden, supporting the company’s goal to cut CO2 emissions by 80% by 2025. As part of its long-term sustainability strategy, Nolato has been increasingly turning to PPAs as a way to secure green energy, manage costs, and protect itself against energy price volatility.

Christer Wahlquist, CEO of Nolato, emphasized the benefits of the agreement, stating: “Incorporating another solar farm into our energy mix is an effective strategy for accessing renewable electricity with a Guarantee of Origin, helping us meet our emission reduction targets. At the same time, the PPA provides stability in our future electricity costs, supporting both our sustainability goals and business operations.”

Clearvise has taken a significant step in its renewable energy growth by signing a purchase agreement with ClearPartners for a large-scale, ground-mounted photovoltaic system in western France. The solar project, boasting an authorised capacity of over 70MWp, marks a key milestone in the company’s expansion strategy. While the sale price remains undisclosed, the impact of this acquisition is set to be substantial. This solar park has already secured a legally binding building permit after successfully navigating the authorisation process. Once operational, the site will generate more than 90GWh of clean electricity per year, powering thousands of homes and businesses. The project will benefit from a mix of state-guaranteed feed-in tariffs and Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), ensuring long-term financial stability.

Clearvise AG’s chief executive, Petra Leue-Bahns, commented: “The signing of this purchase agreement represents a new milestone in our growth initiative. Our co-development and co-IPP model with ClearPartners highlights our commitment to fair, long-term cooperation with regional developers, benefiting all partners involved.” As part of the ClearPartners cooperation, the regional development partner will retain a 30% stake in the project, while Clearvise holds the majority with a 70% share. Tesco Powers Ahead with Landmark Solar PPA 

Tesco has announced the signing of its largest UK Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to date, securing 65% of the solar power from the 373MW Cleve Hill Solar Park. Facilitated by EDF, this 15-year deal marks the largest solar corporate PPA ever agreed upon in the UK, according to Tesco. Located on the north Kent coast, Cleve Hill Solar Park began construction in early 2023 and is slated to be operational by early 2025. With more than 560,000 solar panels and cutting-edge energy storage infrastructure, Cleve Hill will significantly boost the UK’s renewable energy output. The site is expected to generate enough renewable power annually to meet the electricity needs of 144 large Tesco stores.

Tesco’s commitment to sustainability is further reinforced by this deal. By 2030, PPAs will cover 45% of Tesco UK’s and 36% of the group’s projected electricity demand, demonstrating their leadership in corporate climate action. EDF’s role in power balancing and shaping services is crucial to ensuring the smooth integration of this green energy into the grid. Ken Murphy, Tesco’s group chief executive, emphasized the importance of the project, stating, “Cleve Hill Solar Park is a major step toward our goal of carbon neutrality by 2035. Highfield Solar Secures Financing for 132MW Irish Solar Projects

Highfield Solar, a joint venture between Ib Vogt, Highfield Energy, and Aura Power, has reached a major milestone by securing project financing for the construction and operation of two new solar projects with a combined capacity of 132MW. Backed by Cooperatieve Rabobank, these projects—Clonin North (70MW) in County Offaly and North Arklow (62MW) in County Wicklow—will play a crucial role in Ireland’s journey toward a greener future.

Set across 70 hectares near Rhode and Arklow, these solar projects will feature cutting-edge bifacial modules on fixed-tilt support structures, maximizing both land use and efficiency. Construction is slated to begin in October 2024, with work on grid connections already in motion.

This isn’t the first time Highfield Solar and Rabobank have teamed up. Their successful track record includes financing 473MW across four major solar projects, driving Ireland’s clean energy transition even further. Both Clonin North and North Arklow secured their positions in the Government of Ireland’s second Renewable Electricity Support Scheme (RESS 2), an initiative aimed at boosting renewable energy investment to help Ireland meet its target of 80% renewable electricity by 2030. 

Local communities are set to benefit too, with over €100,000 in annual funding for the next 15 years through the RESS scheme, supporting local clubs, societies, and community initiatives.

In a major step toward renewable energy dominance, Estonian energy company Evecon and asset manager Mirova have launched a state-of-the-art 77MW solar park in Kirikmäe, Pärnu County. This massive project spans nearly 110 hectares—over twice the size of Estonia’s largest existing solar facility. The Kirikmäe solar park is part of the Baltic Renewable Energy Platform (BREP), a joint venture established by Evecon and Mirova in December 2022. The goal? To finance, construct, and operate a portfolio of solar parks that exceed 100MWp in capacity across Estonia.

With enough power to meet the annual energy needs of 35,000 households, the Kirikmäe solar park marks a new era for renewable energy in the Baltics. Karl Kull, CEO of Evecon, calls the project “a landmark event for the entire region,” highlighting its scale and the substantial investment it represents. Kull also noted that within a single week, Evecon and Mirova have added over 100MW of solar capacity to the local market, with the recent openings of the Imavere and Lohu mets solar parks. This surge in production accounts for about 10% of Estonia’s current total solar output—a game-changer for the country’s renewable energy landscape. Raphael Lance, head of energy transition funds at Mirova, expressed pride in contributing to the decarbonization and energy independence of the Baltics. He emphasized the strong partnership between Mirova and Evecon, which has made this milestone possible. Leading the charge is Low Carbon’s Layer Solar Farm in Essex, delivering 49.9MW of clean electricity through its cutting-edge infrastructure, complete with a newly constructed 132kV substation. The energisation doesn’t stop there! The other three solar assets—23MW Crouch, 25MW Maldon Wycke, and 35MW Links solar farms—are now online, collectively bolstering the UK’s decarbonisation strategy and paving the way for a greener future.  This latest achievement comes hot on the heels of a momentous summer for Low Carbon. In July, the company secured development consent for its 500MW Gate Burton Energy Park in Lincolnshire—one of the UK’s most significant solar projects to date. Entergy Arkansas has officially brought its newest solar power project, the 100MW Walnut Bend Solar Energy Center, online! Located in Lee County, Arkansas, the Walnut Bend facility is set to generate clean, renewable energy for thousands of homes and businesses, marking a significant step in the utility’s green energy journey.  The project was acquired from Invenergy, a leader in clean energy development, which spearheaded the design, engineering, and construction of the facility. Entergy Arkansas President and CEO Laura Landreaux highlighted the impact of this addition, noting, “Walnut Bend is a valuable part of our generation fleet, complementing our diverse energy mix that has powered Arkansas for over a century.”

Cutting-Edge Solar Technology

Walnut Bend Solar isn’t just any solar farm—it features bifacial solar panels and advanced sun-tracking technology. These bifacial panels capture sunlight on both sides, utilizing the reflected light from the ground to enhance efficiency. Paired with a tracking system that tilts the panels throughout the day to follow the sun, this setup maximizes energy output. This cutting-edge tech ensures that Walnut Bend delivers maximum energy production and contributes to keeping rates low for Entergy Arkansas customers. 

A Boost for the Local Economy

The Walnut Bend facility will generate an estimated $700,000 in annual property taxes for Lee County, providing a steady revenue stream to support the local community. Arkansas Senator Ron Caldwell expressed his support, saying, “I am pleased to welcome Walnut Bend Solar to my district.”

Building a Brighter Future

The Walnut Bend Solar Energy Center is the fourth solar facility Entergy Arkansas has brought online, joining Stuttgart Solar (81MW), Chicot Solar (100MW), and Searcy Solar (100MW). Combined, these four facilities generate a powerful 381MW of clean energy, driving the state closer to a sustainable, emission-free energy future. But Entergy Arkansas isn’t stopping there! Later this year, it plans to launch 430MW of additional solar capacity, including West Memphis (180MW) and Driver (250MW). By next year, two more massive projects—Flat Fork (200MW) and Forgeview (200MW)—will come online, pushing Entergy Arkansas’s solar capacity even higher.

With a total investment exceeding $300 million and expected net customer benefits of over $170 million throughout the lifespan of these facilities, Entergy is not just generating power—it’s generating value for the entire community.
